Pagoda sleeves, cage crinolines, pantalettes, bustles, corsettes and more will be on display at The Heritage Guild of Collin County’s Yesterday and Today Fashion Show this Saturday, Feb. 23 at 11:00 at Eldorado Country Club in McKinney. This year’s show will feature new vintage replica dresses donated to The Heritage Guild in 2012.
“Jean Williams of The Antique House in downtown McKinney was kind enough to think of donating these wonderful dresses to us. They’re a great addition to our vintage clothing collection here at Chestnut Square,” said Cindy Johnson, Executive Director of The Heritage Guild of Collin County. “The replica clothes range from the 1850’s to the 1930’s and include everything from a bicycling costume from the late 1890’s to several formal dresses from the mid to late 1800’s. There’s even a flapper dress from the 1920’s.”
The Heritage Guild has amassed a large collection of antique clothing dating from the 1840’s and some of these items will also be displayed on mannequins in the ballroom at Eldorado Country Club. A special exhibit of undergaremnts from the 1800’s gives insight into what the fashionable lady wore underneath her elaborate fashions. To preserve the clothing collection, clothes are only displayed for brief periods during each year. This is a great opportunity to get up close and learn about the different clothing styles.
Cynthia Van Landingham from Cynthia Elliott Boutique in downtown McKinney will be the mc for the show. She will also showcase her new Spring 2013 fashions.
“It’s amazing to see how the fashion trends of the past are often replicated in current fashion,” said Johnson. “The corsetted wedding gowns of today have their beginnings in the corsettes of the 1880’s. The bustle look is just as popular today as it was in the 1880’s!”
The Yesterday and Today Fashion Show includes a luncheon and tea with door prizes provided by Chestnut Square and Cynthia Elliott Boutique. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 the day of the show. Tickets are available from www.chestnutsquare.org and by calling 972-562-8790. All proceeds benefit The Heritage Guild of Collin County.
