`The Female Odd Couple’ Set to hit MPAC, Courtesy McKinney Repertory Theatre

odd couple 1Unger and Madison are back at it again, but this time with a twist. In Neil Simon’s revision of his hit comedy, Felix and Oscar are now Florence and Olive in The Female Odd Couple and the results are as hilarious as the original. Presented by McKinney Repertory Theatre, The (Female) Odd Couple comes to the stage in the Courtroom Theatre at the McKinney Performing Arts Center at 8 p.m. Oct. 4-5 and Oct. 11-12; with a matinee at 2 p.m. Oct. 13. Tickets are $17 for adults, $14 for students and seniors; and  $12 for children.

Instead of the poker party that begins the original version, Simon’s update of his classic comedy of mismatched roommates starts with the group of female friends playing Trivial Pursuit. True to the original plot, Florence and Olive become roommates and Florence’s obsessive habits quickly start taking their toll on Olive and their friends. Florence is depressed and Olive tries to help by arranging a double date with the suave Costazuela brothers with humorous results.

Many critics believe Simon’s gender switch re-write of The Odd Couple is even better than his original script. The characters are more fully developed and Simon retained the quick wit and one-liners of the original.

Director Pamela Harden has assembled a fabulous cast for MRT’s opening play of its 11th season, many of them familiar favorites. Allison Minston will portray the loveable, sloppy Olive Madison and Polly Harrison brings a new dimension to the uptight Florence Unger. Rounding out the cast are: Kasey Bush as Mickey, Nicole Holbert as Renee, Jean Roberts as Vera, Olivia Stern as Sylvie, Dan Slay as Jesus Costazuela and Brett Femrite as Manolo Costazuela. Assistant Director – Morgan Bond, Lisa Miller -Lighting Designer, Jean Roberts – Stage Manager, Yvonne Vautier-DeLay – Voice/Diction Coach, Elizabeth Graham – Stage Hand and Props and Rachel Carnegie – Light Board.
