More than 1,000 yards between them, The Colony and McKinney High played dominant offensive football games Friday night but MHS lost it 54-33 to fall to 0-2 on the season.
The visiting Lions led 27-21 at halftime but failed to score in the third quarter. The Colony, meanwhile, rallied for a 34-27 advantage going into the fourth quarter. There, they scored twice to start the quarter, increasing their advantage to a 47-27 lead that they never relinquished.
The Colony gained 618 yards on offense to MHS’ 435.
MHS quarterback Robert Somborn passed for 409 yards and three touchdowns — all three to Jonathon Shannon. Shannon and Quentin Casner had nine catches each. Connor Fuentes had seven catches. All three receivers had more than 100 yards.
The Lions play McKinney Boyd next Friday, Sept. 9, at Ron Poe Stadium.
