Thoughts of Thanksgiving often conjure up thoughts of giving thanks, friends, vast tables loaded down with an array of scrumptious family favorites, and, of course, spending the holiday with family. Thanksgiving experiences are also the stuff that great memories are made of; some funny, some deeply poignant and some that we might want to forget. Nevertheless, the staff and contributing writers at TownSquareBuzz.com have decided to share the short version of our most memorable Thanksgiving.
Stuart Pearlman, who does our weekly Stuart J’s Lens video, featuring local businesses, shares one of his own Thanksgiving memories.
My Most Expensive Thanksgiving Celebration
I was living in Connecticut in the late 1990’s. One Thanksgiving my parents flew up from Texas and we loaded up and headed to Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, CT, for fun, frolic, a ‘few’ hours of craps, and Thanksgiving dinner! We were joined by another family, (our entire party was fifteen), and were welcomed by a casino host who knew all the right ways to take care of us. Aside from the ‘suite’ accommodations, almost anything we wanted (Spa, etc.) was available to us, absolutely free, including a Thanksgiving feast in a private dining room.
By the end of that long weekend, I may have been singing Free Bird by Lynard Skynard but the casino was humming their own version of “Money, Money, Money” by ABBA! Our “free” holiday had turned into the most expensive Thanksgiving ever.
