Ten members of the McKinney High Varsity Tennis Team have been recognized for academic excellence. Each year, district coaches of varsity UIL sports recognize those team members who have a cumulative GPA of 90 or above in all courses.
“It is a great honor to be selected to the All-District Academic Team,” Coach Jennifer Dixon said. “At McKinney High School, ten of our top sixteen players on the tennis team made that achievement. Not only are the players at McKinney High School working hard on the tennis court, they are also achieving great things in the classroom. I am very proud of my young student-athletes.”
Tennis is a year-round sport. Players are required to attend practice and matches for most of the school year, with only a short winter break. Many of the students take rigorous AP and pre-AP courses. The players who made this year’s All-District Academic Team are: Nick Ashburn, Gehrig Johnson, Kaleb Kite, Nick Shaver, Amy Anderson, Kiri Chung, Laura Foister, Rachel Kite, Devon Maguire and Tate Mulligan.
