Both McKinney North freshman football teams beat their opponents handily to start the season last week.
The Blue Team won 28-14 and the Orange Team won 12-8 over Carrollton Newman Smith. It was an outstanding job started, as always, by the offensive and defensive lines. Antonio Lopez and Dwayne Williams, among others, did a great job on offense opening holes for Xavier Jackson, Christian Files, Terrance Ellis, Darryl Mason and Miguel Hudson. Sam Ashun added a field goal and extra point. Christian Files passed for 180 yards in his first high school game.
The JV struggled last week and lost 31-0 to a bigger and faster Newman-Smith team. But there were some standouts, Caleb Huffer had a tremendous game at linebacker and long snapper on the punt team, causing a fumble and recovering one. The punt team looked terrific. And the defense, despite the score, made some good plays but often had a short field to work with.
