On Thursday, 4 Oct, the McKinney North Freshman A and B football teams took two victories from the visiting Royse City Bulldogs.
The Orange team shut out their opponents 22-0 in a genuine mauling, leaving them to wonder … who let the Dawgs out?
The Blue team got into a dog fight that saw leads change several times during the course of the game. Key plays during the game included a 48-yard rushing TD by Darryl Mason, in the early minutes of the game, followed by a successful 2-point conversion by QB Christian Files. The next McKinney score was produced when, Christian Files threw a 55 -ard pass for a TD to Xavier Jackson. Sam Ashun converted the PAT.
Kevin Olivier had a nice 70-yard catch and run pass from Christian Files that got the home crowd excited, but unfortunately was called back because of a penalty. Not to be deterred, the dawgs struck again when QB Miguel Hudson rolled out to his left and found WR Brennan Harris open on the left wing and connected with him for a 6-yard pass. Brennan took over from there and bobbed and weaved his way past defenders on his way to a 56-yard TD reception.
With 46 seconds remaining in the game and the North Dawgs losing, Christian Files connected with Brennan Harris for a 10-yard TD and a tie score. The PAT by Sam Ashun put North ahead 29-28. Any hopes of a comeback by Royce City were diminished when none other than Brennan Harris intercepts the football from his safety position and runs it back for a 40-yard TD to put the North Dawgs ahead for good. Sam Ashun added the PAT, making the score 36-28.
Royse City attempted one last ditch effort to throw a bomb downfield only to have it picked off by safety, Terrance Ellis, thus ending the game. Please see highlight video of the blue team’s game.
Both North Freshman teams are now 3-2 and will play Lovejoy at Lovejoy High School this Thursday, Oct 11th.
