Before Stephanie Farrar started The Canine Cookie Company she started making treats for her own dogs. Soon she was giving them to friends for their pets.
What Farrar got in return was encouragement to start a business.
“My cookies are really very, very simple and dogs really respond to that,” said Farrar.
While ingredients are key, one of Farrar’s basic product development philosophies centers on shapes not flavors.
“At the time I thought I’m just gonna make heart-shaped cookies and won’t that be sweet,” she said. “Then I found the squirrel cutter and once I found the squirrel-cutter I thought, forget the hearts. We’re going squirrels!”
Hmmm, dogs and squirrels? Makes sense to me!
Today, some nine years later, Farrar has “hundreds” of different cookie-cutter shapes, a workforce of stay-at-home moms cutting thousands of treats every week, and a thriving business in historic downtown McKinney.
If you are looking for treats for your pooch drop by and visit with Stephanie. She has a store full of squirrels your dog will love. Bring the dogs with you. They might sniff out some other items to take home! The Canine Cookie Company 207 E Louisiana St. McKinney, TX 75069 214.769.4886
