It is no secret that we have a lot to be proud of in McKinney. Our town and people seem to be in the news regularly for outstanding achievements. We are among the best cities to live in the country. We have had an American Idol top 5 contestant. We have had multiple teachers recognized as Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year. The list goes on.
One of our latest notables is Dowell Middle School seventh grader Riley Milliken. For a second year he has participated in the YMCA Youth and Government program. Last month Riley emerged as the 2013-2014 Governor at the Junior Youth and Government State Conference in Austin.
Despite his new gubernatorial title, Riley is a typical 13-year old involved in baseball, church groups and drama. I suppose you could say he is an “All-American Boy.”
