Five years after the congregation of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church began worshiping together, the McKinney-based Church will be breaking ground on their new building on Saturday, May 21st. The ceremony will take place at 5:00 p.m. on St. Andrew’s property, located at the northwest corner of McKinney Ranch Road at Ridge Road in McKinney. The Rt. Rev. James Stanton, Bishop of the Diocese of Dallas, will preside at the Groundbreaking.
From its twelve members in February 2006 to now, the Church has grown to well over 300 members. Thanks to the vision of the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas, St. Andrew’s has over 11 acres of property on McKinney Ranch Road. Having launched a very successful capital campaign, St. Andrew’s will now begin to build its “Phase One” building.
This building will include seating for 250 people in worship, a nursery, classrooms and church offices. Future phases call for a larger sanctuary building and additional classrooms.
While construction goes on, St. Andrew’s will continue to be an active participant in the McKinney community. Social transformation has been a major part of the St. Andrew’s identity. During its brief history, the Church and its congregation have made a big impact in the community. This has included helping many MISD school children with medicine, furniture and food through a partnership with “Communities in Schools”. St. Andrew’s also has “adopted” Burks Elementary school as a Covenant Partner of the 3E Coalition of churches in McKinney.
During construction of the Phase One building, St. Andrew’s will continue to meet and worship at the McKinney YMCA on Ridge Road. Services are at 10:15 am each Sunday.
