Spring Scoreboard: `Night of the Broncos’ Sees Boyd Win in Baseball, Softball and Soccer

Spring Break might be in full swing, but for varsity high school athletes across McKinney, there are games to be won and district titles to chase. A loaded Tuesday night of action took place. Results are below:

Baseball

McKinney Boyd 9, Plano West 0: The Broncos opened District 10-5A competition with a blowout victory on the road. Winning pitcher Zach Rubel didn’t allow a run. Paxson Larson and Francisco DeJesus doubled for the Broncos. Boyd’s home district opener is Friday night against Plano West.

Plano High 6, McKinney High 0: The Lions opened District 10-5A in disappointing fashion at Al Alford Stadium on Tuesday. Kenneth Tabor got the win for Plano, allowing no runs to the Lions. Brad Vassar took the loss.

Royse City 3, McKinney North 2: The Bulldogs lost in an upset on the road in a close District 13-4A contest. The Dawgs had won their district opener 4-2 last week over Sherman. They will play host to Lovejoy in their third district game on Friday night.

Softball

Plano East 4, McKinney High 3: The Lionettes fell to 0-2 in District 10-5A after opening with a 10-4 loss to Plano last week. MHS plays host to Frisco Wakeland at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

McKinney Boyd 9, Plano 8: Bailey Jo-Jones hit a home run and the Lady Broncos improved to 2-0 in District 10-5A after opening district play last week with a 5-4 win over Plano West. Carly Nicklas tripled for Boyd and Jailen Douglas doubled. Erin Riding was the winning pitcher.

Lovejoy 9, McKinney North 7: The Lady Bulldogs lost their first district game of the season at home Tuesday in 13-4A action. North travels to Wylie on Wednesday.

Boys Soccer

McKinney Boyd 4, Plano East 2: The Broncos won on the road at John Clark Stadium in Plano. Four different players scored for Boyd: Braeden Andrews, Cody Spitzer, Taku Tafireyi and Hayden Uhl. The Broncos, who have already clinched a playoff berth, finish their regular season next Tuesday, March 18, by hosting McKinney High at 7:30 p.m.

Allen 1, McKinney High 0: Joe Augustyn scored the match’s lone goal as the visiting Eagles beat McKinney, which has already clinched a playoff berth. The Lions finish their regular season at McKinney Boyd on Tuesday, March 18.

Girls Soccer

McKinney Boyd 5, Plano East 0: Sarah Norman scored three goals and Taylor Cobb scored two as the Lady Broncos dominated. They finish their regular season next Tuesday, March 18, on the road at rival McKinney High at 7:30 p.m.

McKinney High 0, Allen 0: This District 10-5A contest in Allen finished in a scoreless tie Tuesday. The Lionettes finish regular season play by hosting McKinney Boyd next Tuesday, March 18.
