Defense wins championships, or so we’re told, correct? Well, look no further than the spirited goose eggs produced Tuesday night by some of MISD’s varsity athletic teams. Game results follow:
McKinney North 6, Wylie 0: Pitcher Gabe Constantine blanked Wylie as the Bulldogs continued a successful season by getting a shutout on the road. Montana Sadler and Preston Speers each had two doubles. North improved to 3-1 in District 13-4A while Wylie fell to 1-3.
McKinney Boyd 5, Plano High 3: Zach Rubel was the winning pitcher and Francisco DeJesus doubled as the Broncos improved to 3-0 in District 10-5A competition. The road win was big for Boyd as Plano fell to 2-1 in the district.
Plano East 1, McKinney High 0: The Lions lost a pitcher’s duel on the road Tuesday night. Reece Calvert got the win for East and losing pitcher Brad Vassar performed well for MHS. The Lions actually out-hit Plano East 5-3.
McKinney Boyd 6, Allen 0: The Lady Broncos shut out their rivals from the south at home on Tuesday. Erin Riding didn’t allow a run on the mound and was the winning pitcher. Jill Nicklas and Maddy VonHagel each doubled for Boyd, which improved to 3-0 in District 10-5A as Allen fell to 0-3.
Plano West 13, McKinney High 0: It wasn’t the Lionettes’ night on the road Tuesday. East outhit MHS 12-3 and MHS committed five errors in the field.
McKinney Boyd 3, McKinney High 1: The host Broncos won the final regular season game for both of these playoff-bound District 10-5A rivals. A flurry of scores by Boyd provided the difference when Hayden Uhl scored in the 54th minute, Trey Marchino in the 57th and Andrew Smith in the 59th. Bronco assists went to Braeden Andrews, Uhl and Kyle Bennett. Boyd’s back line put in a nice defensive effort, as did goalkeeper Tim Boswell. David Soto scored McKinney High’s lone goal. It was an important night for bragging rights considering these teams tied 1-1 in their previous district match in February at MHS.
McKinney North 4, Anna 1: The Bulldogs finished the regular season with a convincing win on the road at Anna. Scoring goals for North were Kyle Biggio, Anthony Sanders, Brandon Montoya and Caleb Gaylord.
