McKinney Boyd fought through a tough ballgame to defeat Garland 1-0 on Senior Night at Bronco Field to clinch the first district softball championship in program history. Erin Riding was the winning pitcher for the Lady Broncos, while McKenna Henry doubled in the ballgame. Boyd improved to 13-0 in District 10-5A and can cap off a perfect district season when the Lady Broncos travel to North Garland on Friday. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
McKinney North was outslugged by Rockwall 7-1 on the road Tuesday night, dropping its district record to 9-4 on the season. Celeste Verdolivo was the losing pitcher for the Lady Bulldogs, while Ashleigh Ahlborn doubled in the game. With the loss and the MHS win, the Lady Bulldogs and Lionettes are now tied at 9-4 for third place in District 10-4A. Now while both are assured a playoff spot with one game remaining, both teams are fighting to avoid playing a number one seed in the bi-district round. If both teams remained tied, MHS would be the third seed due to the advantage head-to-head. The Lady Bulldogs close out their season on Senior Night when they host 11-2 Wylie. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
McKinney High defeated Wylie East 11-1 to cap off its Senior Night and bring the Lionettes to a tie with McKinney North for third place in District 10-4A. Chelsea Thomas did allow a hit in the ball game for the Lionettes, but she finished the game with a win. Alyssa Fontillas had two doubles in the game, while Jazsmine Nelson and Krissy Fontillas each doubled as well. Also, the only triple for MHS came off the bat of Nelson. The Lionettes end their regular season visiting 3-10 Highland Park in a matchup that would seal up the third seed for MHS with a win. If the Lionettes were to be upset by the Lady Scots on Friday night, then a Lady Bulldog win would give North the three seed and McKinney High the fourth. Game time for the Highland Park game on Friday is 4:00 p.m.
