After an impressive sweep of Rockwall in the UIL Class 5A Regional Quarterfinal series last weekend, the McKinney Boyd softball team will prepare for their toughest task yet, as they will face The Woodlands in the Region II semifinal series. Lady Broncos Notes: Boyd swept Rockwall 2-0 in the Region II Quarterfinal series last week. Won game one 3-1 at Boyd on Friday and won game two 1-0 at Rockwall on Saturday… In game one, home runs by Jill Nicklas and McKenna Henry provided all the runs the Lady Broncos would need. Pitcher Erin Riding struck out eight Yellowjackets in the complete game victory, allowing just nine hits and walking one hitter… On Saturday, Boyd’s lone run came on an RBI double by Maddy VonHagel, who scored Cassandra Heller from second base. Riding picked up her second win of the series, striking out 10 Rockwall hitters in the game…. Boyd is 6-0 in the playoffs through the first three rounds, and Riding has earned the win in the circle all six games… Boyd is averaging 7.3 runs per game if include the 10-0 and 19-0 wins versus W.T. White in the Bi-district round. Since the first round, the Lady Broncos are averaging 3.75 runs per game… The Lady Broncos have allowed just two runs in the postseason and have four shutouts.
The Woodlands Notes: The Highlanders finished first in District 14-5A, finishing two games in front of Oak Ridge… The Woodlands finished No. 7 in the Texas Girls Coaches Association rankings on May 8… The Woodlands outscored opponents 132-27 in district play, and outscored opponents 268-75 overall this season… As a team, the Highlanders are batting .378 and have an on-base percentage of .453. Aubrey Leach leads all hitters with a .535 average (53 hits in 99 at-bats) while Angela Curran is second with a .480 average (48 hits in 100 at-bats)… Abby Langkamp leads the team with three home runs while Sydney Salmans leads the team with 35 RBIs… The Woodland hitters have 43 doubles and 14 triples this season, to go along with six total home runs… Langkamp is the ace for the Highlanders, with a record of 20-4 and a 1.25 ERA in 140.1 innings. She has 86 strikeouts and 43 walks on the season, while opponents have a batting average of .206 against her… Leach leads the team with 38 steals in 40 attempts, and as a team the Highlanders are 102-of-119 in stolen base attempts.
What it Means: The Woodlands-Boyd series winner will face the winner of Plano-Kingwood in the UIL Class 5A Region II final next week.
