Ashleigh Alhborn drove in four runs on three hits and freshman pitcher Celeste Verdolivo did not allow an earned run and struck out five on Tuesday in McKinney North’s 12-2, five-inning softball win over Heath.
Verdolivo remained efficient, throwing just 17 balls out of her 63 total pitches and delivered 19 first-pitch strikes. Her fifth inning walk of Ashlee Reese was her first free pass in 12 innings.
The Bulldogs (7-6-1, 3-0 in 10-4A) scored in the first, third, fourth, and fifth innings, taking advantage of six walks by Heath starter Sarah Stewart. Alli Lindsey, who reached first on two of those walks and stole two bases, scored four times for North. Ahlborn’s triple to center in the third scored Lindsey and Faith Dixon as part of a four-run inning. Dixon finished with three RBI and two runs scored for the Bulldogs.
The win sets up a crosstown showdown for North at McKinney High on Friday. The Lionettes (8-8, 1-2) dropped a 3-1 heartbreaker to Rockwall on Tuesday.
