With the regular season finales for all six MISD soccer programs set for Friday night, Boyd and MHS prepared to square off at McKinney High for the final time this season. Meanwhile at North, the boys and girls teams’ would finish the 17-4A schedule with matchups versus Anna. Below are scores and recaps from each match:
MHS Boys Upset Boyd 3-2:
In the regular season finale for both teams, the McKinney Lions (5-1-4) defeated the Boyd Broncos (8-1-1) 3-2 at MHS on Friday night. The loss was the first District 10-5A loss for the Broncos.
McKinney’s Mikie Swim had an unassisted goal just 21 seconds into the match, giving the Lions an early 1-0 advantage. In the eighth minute, Gerson Mendoza scored with an assist from Swim to make it 2-0. The Lions final goal came at the 39th minute, when Chris Garza scored unassisted to give McKinney a 3-0 lead.
Boyd would make it a match in the second half, as Dillon Farrell and Juan Moran each scored a goal to make it 3-2. In the end, Quique Vicens’ five saves in the second half along with contributions from seniors Tom Navarette, Sean Townsend, and Matt West, along with junior Andres Garza, secured the 3-2 district win for the Lions.
McKinney High will face Dallas Skyline in the Bi-district round on Thursday night, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Plano’s Clark Stadium. Boyd will face Richardson Berkner, with location and time TBD.
McKinney North Girls:
The Lady Bulldogs (8-0) shut out Anna 9-0 in the District 17-4A finale for both schools.
Belicia Mendiola scored three goals in the match for North, while Alon Encalade, Mikhayla White, Clarissa Ledesma, Mary Watson, Hadlie Tucker, and Berlee Gandel all had one goal in the win.
North will face Frisco Centennial in the Bi-district round match on Tuesday night at McKinney Boyd, beginning at 6 p.m.
McKinney North Boys:
The Bulldogs (6-2) shut out Anna 7-0 in the District 17-4A finale on Friday night.
Morgan Dizney and Danny Rodriguez both scored two goals in the match, while Mark Aquino, Kaleb Gaylord, and Kody Ludwig each scored one goal for the Bulldogs.
North will face Frisco Wakeland in the Bi-district round match on Tuesday night at Ron Poe Stadium, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
