Soccer Playoffs: TSB Previews the UIL Postseason for All Six MISD Programs

People call McKinney “Soccer Town,” and the 2013 season proved why once again.

All six MISD high school soccer programs made the UIL state playoffs this season, with the McKinney Boyd boys and McKinney North girls winning district titles along the way. Below are the game times and locations for all six matches scheduled for this week, along with a player to watch from each team as the chase for the state championship begins.

Class 4A:

McKinney North Boys (6-2 in District 17-4A, 10-9 overall) vs. Frisco Wakeland (6-4 in District 18-4A, 14-6-4 overall)
Where: Ron Poe Stadium, McKinney
When: Tuesday, 7:30 p.m.

Player to Watch: Morgan Dizney led the Bulldogs in assists with 19, while he was second on the team in scoring with eight goals.

McKinney North Girls (8-0 in District 17-4A, 16-1-3 overall) vs. Frisco Centennial (5-5 in District 18-4A, 13-10 overall)
Where: McKinney Boyd H.S.
When: Tuesday, 6 p.m.

Player to Watch: Belicia Mendiola led the Lady Bulldogs with 25 goals and is tied for second in assists with eight, helping North cruise to a 17-4A district title.

Class 5A:

McKinney High Boys (5-1-4 in District 10-5A, 14-3-5 overall) vs. Dallas Skyline (8-4-2 in District 9-5A, 16-7-2 overall)
Where: Plano’s John Clark Stadium
When: Thursday, 7 p.m.

Players to Watch: Rylan Whan and Quique Vicens combined for four shut outs in district play, while the Lions allowed just nine goals in 10 district matches.

McKinney High Girls (4-6-0 in District 10-5A, 12-7-0 overall) vs. Richardson Pearce (11-1-0 in District 9-5A, 14-5-1 overall)
Where: Plano’s Kimbrough Stadium
When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Player to Watch: Natalie Throneberry led the Lionettes with eight goals and five assists as MHS finished in fourth place in 10-5A.

McKinney Boyd Boys (8-1-1 in District 10-5A, 15-4-3 overall) vs. Richardson Berkner (4-4-6 in District 9-5A, 6-7-7 overall)
Where: Richardson Berkner H.S.
When: Thursday, 8 p.m.

Player to Watch: Sewell Yost helped the Broncos claim their third district title with team-high 13 goals and six assists.

McKinney Boyd Girls (6-2-2 in District 10-5A, 13-3-5 overall) vs. Sunset High (7-5-0 in District 9-5A, 11-6-0 overall)
Where: Kincaide Stadium
When: Thursday, 6 p.m.

Player to Watch: Marliegh Essler was the Lady Broncos starting goalkeeper and helped the team allow just 11 goals in district play, including three shut outs.
