In its first three years, Smiles Charity (previously Smiles for Habitat) helped build three homes through a partnership with Habitat for Humanity. This year, Smiles Charity aims to raise awareness of the need for affordable housing by America’s military heroes who return home with life altering injuries sustained while protecting freedoms abroad. In keeping with that goal, Smiles Charity will raise money to build homes for two disabled
soldiers through a partnership with Operation Finally Home.
Operation Finally Home is a Houston-based organization that builds mortgage free homes for severely wounded veterans. The organization will be building several homes in the North Texas area, two of which are directly sponsored by Smiles Charity. Levi Wilson, Sergeant US Army retired, and Alan Hornaday, Sergeant 1st Class US Army retired, were severely wounded in Iraq while serving their country. They and their families will be the recipients of homes sponsored by Smiles Charity.
Smiles Charity is hosting several events throughout 2011 including a successful Fashion Show in February, the upcoming Casino Night and Auction, and its most notable event which is the Smiles Charity Concert and Festival held annually over Memorial Day weekend.
Smiles Charity, a McKinney based 501c(3) non-profit organization dedicated to bringing the community together to change the world one home, one family at time, is currently seeking event sponsors. Please visit www.smilescharity.org for more information about getting involved.
