The fourth annual Smiles Charity Concert and Festival held over Memorial Day Weekend brought 15,000 members of the McKinney community together to honor several local heroes and raised money to build homes for two soldiers who were severely wounded while serving in Iraq and left permanently disabled. Smiles Charity’s net proceeds of $75,000 will go directly towards the cost of building homes for Levi Wilson, Sergeant US Army retired, and Alan Hornaday, Sergeant 1st Class US Army retired.
The 2011 Smiles Charity Concert was made possible by local sponsors like Raytheon, Torchmark, Simpson Strong-Tie, Dr. Nix – Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Traxxas, Crest Auto Group, KLAK 97.5, and Dr. Buchanan Orthodontics. Donation stations were placed throughout the concert venue to allow a very generous McKinney community to contribute to building homes for Mr. Wilson and Mr. Hornaday. McKinney residents solidly answered the call to give back helping to raise $75,000 in net proceeds which will go directly Operation Finally Home, the non-profit that is building the homes in the North Texas Area.
