Rain spoiled the sidewalk sales on Saturday, May 9. Based on feedback at the last business monthly meeting, we are asking everyone to display sidewalk sale merchandise on on Saturday, May 23. We encourage as much participation as possible. In planning for the sale, please make sure that your sidewalk is able to accommodate visitors that may have special needs.
6TH ANNUAL BIKE THE BRICKS
EVENT INFORMATION & STREET CLOSURES
The City of McKinney’s Bike the Bricks, presented by Alfa Romeo FIAT of McKinney is scheduled for Friday, May 22 from 3 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. This is the largest cycling race in Texas attracting racers from across the world. This year, we have enhanced features of a jumbotron featuring live broadcast of the event, as well as the Mellow Mushroom Stage with entertainment throughout the day culminating in a concert by Jamestown Revival at 9:30 p.m.
We have increased advertising for this event and are striving to bring 10,000 visitors to Downtown McKinney.
Due to the increased activities, access to Downtown be closed Thursday evening around midnight.
* Event set-up begins at 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21
* Please be aware that the parking lot directly east of Mitchell Park, Church Street from Louisiana to Virginia and ALL parking spaces on the race route will be blocked
* Customers will be redirected to park in outer lots
* Through traffic will not be accessible on Friday, May 22
If cars are parked within the event perimeter on Friday, May 22 after 1 p.m. – they will be towed.
Bollards drop at midnight on May 21. Any location marked with barricades will be manned by city Streets Staff during duration of event for emergency deliveries, along with our neighbors in the historic district who will have access to and from their homes.
Due to the event – there will be no trash or recycling pick-up on Friday, May 22. Trash collection will be scheduled on Saturday morning around 10 a.m. Regular trash pick-up will resume on Tuesday, May 26 due to the Memorial Day holiday.
Shuttle service will be available from TAPS from 4 to 11 p.m. Shuttle pick-up will be located at the Sheraton McKinney and drop-off will be at Virginia and Chestnut Streets. Shuttles will run every 30 minutes.
