McKinney residents won’t find tricks, just lots of treats as McKinney Main Street presents Scare on the Square from 4–7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30 in Historic Downtown McKinney. This year’s event features bewitching activities and fun for the entire family. Admission is free and parking can be found throughout the historic downtown area.
New this year is a costume contest for age groups 0-3, 4-7, and 8-12, and categories for all ages like best Star Wars, recycled, pet and group costumes. Twenty entries will be accepted in each age group and category on a first-come, first-served basis. Sign-ups begin at 5 p.m. and the contest begins at 6 p.m. First place finishers from each age group and category will compete for the grand prize, and the top three entries will be awarded $250, $150 or $100. The contest is sponsored by Main Street Magic & Fun Company.
Historic Downtown McKinney will be closed to traffic during Scare on the Square to allow little ghosts and goblins to trick-or-treat safely throughout the shops and boutiques. Children will also have a chance to meet and take photos with Otis the Otter from North Texas Municipal Water District. Otis will encourage families to “Save Water for Otter” and encourage parents to sign up for WaterMyYard.org.
The annual Ghost Hunt has begun. Participate by finding 20 hidden cut-out ghosts that are hidden throughout Historic Downtown McKinney. Fill out the Ghost Hunt map available online or at participating downtown businesses and submit to the MPAC Administrative Office, 111 N. Tennessee St., throughOct. 30 to be entered for a chance to win a $100 shopping spree. No purchase is necessary, and forms must be completed by an adult 18 years or older.
