As serious runners and family exercisers registered for Saturday’s 5K and 1-Mile “Run the Trails” event of Crape Myrtle Trails of McKinney, organizers announced record sponsorships and extra added attractions. The newest promise of excitement in Myrtle Village on Nov. 23 is a large interactive display by Traxxas, the manufacturer of radio-controlled hobby models. The manufacturer has new headquarters in McKinney.
A key feature at the annual fun run is the party atmosphere in “Myrtle Village.” Entertainment includes music, a petting zoo, face painter, obstacle course and, this year, 1/8-scale drag racing, courtesy of Traxxas. McKinney Mayor Brian Loughmiller, an avid runner, will be on hand to inspire runners. The action, as always, will include fun warm-up exercises, plus Chicken Dances and other dancing in the street afterwards.
As always, area schools will compete for trophies based on participant turnout. Students from winning schools will see their principals or athletic directors kiss Myrtle the Pig. Medals will be awarded for fastest times in multiple age divisions, from young to old. Participants can still register online at www.crapemyrtletrails.org. Race Day registration begins at 7:30 a.m. in front of Cooper Fitness Center in Craig Ranch, 7910 Collin McKinney Pkwy in McKinney. The first race leaves the gate at 8:30 a.m. The race is directed and timed by Racing Systems through Run-On! of McKinney.
