McKinney, Texas – December 3, 2015 – McKinney Friday Rotary Club today announced new details for the 16th Annual Christmas Parade of Lights, scheduled for Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. on the historic town square.
The annual FREE, family-friendly event has become the focal point for the community during the holiday season. Organized by the Friday Noon Rotary Club, this year’s sponsors include McKinney Community Development Corporation (promotional sponsor); Chick-Fil-A (McKinney Locations); Community Impact Newspaper; 97.5 KLAK; MISD Community Affairs; Tomes Auto Group; First Choice ER-McKinney; AG-Power; Baylor Hospital-McKinney; Bank of Texas; Healthcare Associates of McKinney; Independent Bank; Heritage Land Bank; Market Street McKinney; Volunteer McKinney, metro-grafix creative services, Santa’s Workshop and Munzee Inc. The theme for this year’s parade is “The Gift of Christmas”. The event will be held rain or shine, unless cancelled for weather safety reasons. OVER 77 FLOATS AND ENTRIES! This year is shaping up to be the largest parade yet – with parade entrants topping 77 in number, including FOUR marching bands.
UPDATES: McKinney Rotary Parade Committee announces these updates and additions to the parade:
- VIRTUAL SCAVENGER HUNT: With a minimum $5 donation to the McKinney Rotary Foundation for scholarship and youth programs, participants can win 1 of 22 total prizes. The grand prize is a weekend at Sheraton McKinney, a $50 gift card to Rick’s Chophouse, a $25 gift card to The Pantry (and more). The download of an online app is required; participants enter by uploading photos and QR codes thru the app. Clues will go live at 5:00 p.m. For complete details, visit the Scavenger Hunt page of the Parade website.
- VETERAN’S SALUTE SEGMENT: The parade will include 19 military veterans, from all branches, with service ranging from WWII to recent conflicts. Veterans will be riding in vintage military transport vehicles.
- AUDIENCE CHOICE PRIZE (FLOATVOTE): In addition to the Judge’s Awards (below), this year’s parade invites audience members to vote on their favorite entries and floats via a FREE link, which will be announced and go live the night of the parade. Visit the parade Facebook page for more info.
- BLOOD DRIVE: Carter BloodCare will be on hand from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. to collect blood donations. The Carter BloodCare bus will be at Virginia and Tennessee.
PRIZES. Judge’s Awards include 1st Place ($1000), 2nd Place ($500), 3rd Place ($300) and 4th Place ($200).
SPECIAL GUESTS: Hosted by Grand Marshall Burton Gilliam (star of Mel Brooks’ classic “Blazing Saddles”, Oscar-winning “Paper Moon”, “Fletch”, “Back to the Future III”, “Honeymoon in Vegas” and “Evening Shade”), the parade also features very special guest star Santa Claus, (on a brief break from toy-building at the North Pole). At 6:15 p.m., Gilliam will entertain the crowd with a dramatic reading of “The Night Before Christmas”.
