McKinney Boyd senior Steven O’Neill is one of only five Texas high school students among recipients of scholarships from the National Federation of Independent Business Young Entrepreneur Foundation.
The information was published in the Dallas Morning News.
The program is designed to reward and encourage entrepreneurial talents among high school students.
Overall, 131 students from 42 states won scholarships from among more than 500 applicants nationwide.
All of the students run their own business. A panel of judges selected winners based on essays, standardized test scores, GPA and class rank.
The winners will receive $1,000 to $10,000 in tuition assistance from the NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation to attend university, college, community college or vocational/technical institute.
Since 2003, the NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation has awarded 2,300 scholarships to graduating high school seniors totaling more than $2.5 million.
