To celebrate Christmas at the Texas Capitol, Representative Scott Sanford, McKinney and Shelly Sanford presented District 70’s ornament that is displayed on the Lone Star Celebration Christmas Tree in the House Chamber at the Texas State Capitol.
“Shelly and I were both thankful of Pam’s contribution to the Christmas tree in the Capitol. Her ornament illustrates how the Collin County area is truly “Unique by Nature,” stated Rep. Sanford.
Pam Holzknecht, who works at local business Snug on the Square, was asked to decorate the District 70 ornament in a way that showcases the unique character of our community. Over a background of newsprint from the McKinney Courier Gazette, Pam chose words that describe the district’s contradictions: country and urban, generations and newcomers, industrial and agricultural, rolling hills and flat country and contemporary and quaint style.
The district ornament project was initiated in 2009 to give all of the unique Texas communities a place on the Lone Star Celebration Christmas Tree in the Chamber of the Texas House of Representatives. The ornaments were placed on the tree on Dec. 6,2013, and will hang through Jan. 3, 2014.
