The American Cancer Society announces Relay For Life of McKinney is set for 7 p.m. Friday, April 25 through 7 a.m. Saturday, April 26 at the Ball Fields at Craig Ranch.
Relay For Life, the American Cancer Society’s signature overnight event, is a chance to celebrate not only cancer survivors but also continue the fight against cancer that was started more than 100 years ago when the American Cancer Society was created.
McKinney’s Relay For Life was launched in 2002, and since its inception has raised more than $4 million. Attendees at the 2013 event numbered more than 3,000, with over 100 teams raising more than $414,000 for the cause.
“We are very excited about this year’s Relay For Life,” said Egan. “The McKinney Relay has a very successful history, and we plan to continue that success to make this a world with less cancer and more birthdays. We need creative, energetic people to help us continue to grow this meaningful event, and are always looking for volunteer help. ”
The event will begin with a “survivor lap” with cancer survivors beginning the Relay. Additional planned activities include a food court and an inspirational luminaria ceremony, honoring and remembering those who have fought cancer.
The Planning Committee currently is recruiting interested volunteers for the fundraiser.
