This past spring, I had the pleasure of spending time in several of the classrooms of McKinney ISD. What I saw was Sikhs, Hindi, Muslims, Jews, Christians and the non-affiliated working and participating together. I visited classrooms, walked the halls and observed several campus administrations. I saw young people and teachers — representative of heritages stemming from Indo-European, Oriental, African, Middle Eastern, Island and European cultures — all fully participating in a lively, vibrant and productive academic community. There could be no greater reward for my 20 years of military service than to see the principles and beliefs of representative democracy, which I swore to protect, alive, well and thriving in these classrooms and halls.
As I live in Plano I cannot vote in your upcoming Tax Rate Election. You can.
Plano will be having their own version of this in the near future, and rest assured I always vote FOR education – it is the life blood of a community, an investment in our future, and a direct contributor to property value.
Please visit a McKinney ISD classroom, see our democracy in action, and then vote YES for the TRE.
