For several months, the City of McKinney has been in negotiations with Collin College to build a new public safety training facility. On two previous occasions, the city council was set to vote the proposed agreement, but the vote was tabled both times per City Manager Jason Gray’s request.
The council was set to vote on the agreement again on Tuesday, but Gray informed the council that the city was unable to successfully negotiate the terms of the agreement with Collin College. Gray asked for the council to take no action on the agenda item, which would officially dismiss the agenda item. The council reached a consensus and agreed to not take any action on the agenda item; therefore the agreement is officially dead.
The original agreement details showed that the facility would have been used to train the city’s police and fire department personnel. The city was prepared to offer free use of city-owned land near Redbud Boulevard and Bloomdale Road and fund up to $2.5 million in construction costs.
The facility was expected to open in the middle of 2015.
