Press Elementary School Principal to Retire This Year

McKinney, Texas – Long time McKinney ISD administrator Paige Hanks has announced her plan to retire at the end of the 2014-2015 school year. Hanks has served as principal of Press Elementary for the past two years, but the impact of her leadership has been felt at several campuses across the district since her arrival in 2001.

“I have grown so much as a professional in my 14 years in McKinney ISD,” said Hanks. “I have loved the students as if they were my very own and their parents have been great partners for all these years. The staff of MISD works harder than I can even begin to communicate and they give 100 percent of themselves to their mission that all students will be successful.”

Hanks began her career in North Carolina as a fifth-grade elementary teacher more than 20 years ago. She went on to teach third and fourth grade in Fernandina Beach and Jacksonville Beach, Florida and served as academic dean at Beaches Episcopal School before she came to McKinney in 2001 to serve as assistant principal at Wolford Elementary. She accepted the principal job at Bennett Elementary in 2005, and when the Herman Lawson Early Childhood School opened in 2009, Hanks was the choice to lead them. Since 2013, she has been cultivating a College Bound culture at Press.

And true to the message she preaches to her students—“After high school comes….COLLEGE!”—Hanks is heading back to the classroom.  In the fall, she plans to attend the Master of Divinity program at SMU’s Perkins Theological Seminary to become an ordained priest in the Episcopal Church. “So, after Press really does come college!” she said in a letter to the Press community.

The MISD Board of Trustees is currently seeking Hanks’ successor and plan to make a final decision by the end of the school year.

“Although it is hard to leave this work and move into a new chapter of my life,” said Hanks, “I am blessed to have had the opportunity to serve in my community and hope to stay in touch with and grow the many friendships I have made here in the years to come. I’ve had the best jobs you can imagine here and will take these experiences with me wherever I go.”
