Friday @ 7:30 p.m. – vs. Temple @ Midlothian High School
McKinney Boyd is preparing this week for a one-game playoff versus Temple High School in the UIL state softball regional quarterfinal round. The game will be played at Midlothian High School on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
After losing game one to Mesquite High School last Thursday night, the Lady Broncos reeled off two straight wins to advance past Mesquite and set up the matchup with Temple. Boyd’s Erin Riding was the pitcher of record in all three of the games versus Mesquite and will need another huge game on Friday for the Lady Broncos to advance on.
Temple has played two one-game series so far in this playoff, defeating Longview 14-0 in the bi-district round and knocking off Garland 7-2 last week in the area round. The winner of this matchup will face the winner of the Tomball versus The Woodlands series in the regional semifinal.
Game One: vs. Rockwall – Friday @ 7 p.m.
Game Two: vs. Rockwall – Saturday @ 11 a.m.
Game Three (if nec.): vs. Rockwall – Saturday immediately following Gm. 2
ALL GAMES AT ALLEN HIGH SCHOOL
McKinney High School will make its way down Highway 75 for the weekend, as the Lionettes will square off with district rival Rockwall High School in a best-of-three series at Allen High School starting Friday night at 7 p.m.
MHS defeated Hillcrest High School in two games last weekend by a combined score of 30-0 that included another no-hitter by Lionette’s ace Chelsea Thomas. Rockwall defeated Seagoville in the area round last week 21-1 in a one-game playoff. In the bi-district round, Rockwall overcame Frisco Centennial 14-3 and 9-1 to advance in two games.
Rockwall finished the regular season in District 10-4A as the champions of the league, posting a record of 13-1 against its district foes. In the season series between the two teams, Rockwall won both matchups by scores of 3-1 and 8-2. It waits to be seen if MHS has the offense to keep up with Rockwall, as the Yellow Jackets have six hitters all hitting above .400 in 2012. The winner of this series will face the winner of Elgin versus Forney in the regional semifinal next week.
