Republican Ken Paxton of McKinney has “appeared to gain the upper hand in the GOP primary contest” for the State Senate seat being given up by Florence Shapiro, says the Tuesday edition of the Dallas Morning News.
Republican Scott O’Grady announced Monday that he’s suspending his campaign. O’Grady is a former Air Force fighter pilot, who flew 57 combat missions over Bosnia and Iraq.
“At this time, due to the uncertainty of a primary election date from redistricting, I am suspending my campaign for the Texas state Senate,” O’Grady told the Morning News.
Paxton, a state representative, announced in December that he had filed for candidacy for the state senate. At the same time, he announced a super-majority of precinct chairs who reside in Senate District 8, underscoring the strong grassroots support backing his candidacy.
