On Saturday, September 24, 2011, Sharing Spoons, a division of Spoons Cafe, will “Gather to Give” by holding the 1st Annual Fastnachtsdienstag (Pancake Day). This Pancake Day will coincide with McKinney’s Oktoberfest and will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.
Young and old alike are invited to attend the complimentary pancake and ham breakfast Saturday morning in front of Gather at 207 E Virginia Street from 8am – 10am, or until we are “flipped out”. Hamm’s Custom Meats will be donating their tasty ham to be served along side Spoon’s pancakes. Donations will be accepted and will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.
Representatives from the Alzheimer’s Association will be on hand to answer questions, pass out information and sign teams up for their upcoming memory walks.
With World Alzheimer Month upon us, Karen Klassen, owner of Spoons Cafe and Gather, wanted to make an impact by raising awareness about Alzheimer’s sufferers. Alzheimer’s is close to Karen’s heart. “My mother has suffered from this disease for the past 8 years. Over these last years, I have learned about the different stages of the disease and the toll that it takes on the person, the family and the caretakers. Denial has been one of my ways of handling a difficult situation, but it is no longer an option. I have decided to put the energy of
Spoons, Gather, my team and myself to help raise awareness.”
Alzheimer’s disease is a tragic epidemic that currently has no survivors. It’s the only cause of death among the of the top 10 causes of death in the U.S. without a way to prevent, cure, or even slow it down. September is World Alzheimer’s Month, and together we can do something about it. There are many ways to get involved in the fight against Alzheimerʼs. Join us by honoring the heroes that fight against this disease every day – and become a hero by helping to raise awareness.
