A busy weekend of volleyball tournaments concluded Saturday as the first week of the UIL regular season came to a close, and teams began to warm up across the state.
Locally, MISD teams were part of the action.
McKinney Boyd (5-1) finished a successful week by going 2-1 on the final day of the Duncanville Tournament of Champions. The Lady Broncos beat Flower Mound Marcus 2-0, winning 25-13, 25-12; then the Lady Broncos beat The Woodlands College Park 2-0, winning 25-20, 25-20. In the finals, Boyd finally lost for the first time this season, falling to Southlake Carroll 3-0. Southlake won 25-20, 25-23, 25-13.
McKinney North (3-4) went 1-1 on Saturday in the final day of the Denton Ryan Kick-Off Classic. As a result, the Lady Bulldogs finished second in the Diamond bracket. North beat Rudder in its first match of the day, 3-2. North won it 25-21, 25-20, 19-25, 21-25, 15-9. Waxahachie beat North 3-0 in the bracket finals, winning 25-13, 25-12, 25-15.
McKinney High (2-4) defeated Denton Ryan 3-1 on the final day of the Denton Ryan Kick-Off Classic. The Lionettes won that match, 25-13, 21-25, 25-12, 25-23. MHS also lost an ultra-tight battle Saturday to Irving MacArthur 3-2. MacArthur won that match 15-25, 25-23, 25-16, 19-25, 16-14.
