Marquel Sheppard (pictured left) may very well be one of the most unique athletes to ever don a McKinney North uniform. He was a rare combination of defensive tackle and running back, who emerged as a leader on both sides of the football during his senior year. The Bulldogs of 2010 shocked the district by not only defeating rival McKinney High for the first time in three years but also finishing just one loss short of a playoff berth. Sheppard played a big role in the Dawgs quest for the postseason and although he and his fellow seniors fell short, the pain would only be temporary as three months later he would sign a letter of intent to play college football with Trinity Valley Junior College.
Last week, McKinney North head coach Mike Fecci was notified by the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) that his former player was selected to play in the 2011 All-Star Football Game which will take place tonight at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. Sheppard will play for the North All-Star team under coach Steve Warren of Abilene High School. The South All-Star team will be coached by Don Clayton of Cinco Ranch High School.
Tickets for the game will be available at the door for $11 each. Parking at Cowboys Stadium will be $10. Can’t make the trip out to Arlington for the game tonight? Not a problem. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest.
Kickoff for the All-Star game is at 7:30 p.m.
