North Texas Giving Day 2013

Nonprofits Aim for Record Donations During North Texas Giving Day

Local charities are hoping to gain some extra funds Thursday as supporters take advantage of North Texas Giving Day through DonorBrigde, beginning at 7 a.m. The public can make donations of $25 or more to certified nonprofits listed on www.DonorBridgeTX.org from 7 a.m. to midnight on Thursday, Sept. 19. Those donations will be amplified by $1.7 million dollars in bonus funds and prizes. DonorBridge will match donations made during today’s campaign, while funds last.

Marking its fifth year, North Texas Giving Day aims to exceed last year’s record-breaking 37,800 donations totaling $14.4 million. To achieve this goal, North Texas Giving Day presenter Communities Foundation of Texas, along with many North Texas nonprofits, are making the day more communal, less virtual with several free “donation station” events around North Texas throughout the day featuring free entertainment and surprise performances.

“Each year, the generosity of North Texans on Giving Day is astounding,” said Brent Christopher, president and CEO, Communities Foundation of Texas and DonorBridge founder. “Over the past four years, North Texas Giving Day has brought thousands of North Texans together to raise more than $34 million dollars. We hope this year we’ll raise even more to fuel the important work of nonprofits serving our local communities.”

Launched in 2009 by Communities Foundation of Texas with ongoing support from Center for Nonprofit Management and The Dallas Foundation, DonorBridge is the most comprehensive and free public resource for connecting North Texas nonprofits and supporters. Bonus funds and prizes have been contributed by Bank of America, Katherine C. Carmody Trust Fund, Communities Foundation of Texas, Community Foundation of North Texas, The Dallas Foundation, Dallas Women’s Foundation, Hunt Consolidated’s Hunt Cares Campaign, Meadows Foundation, Rees-Jones Foundation, Sid Richardson Foundation, Harold Simmons Foundation and an anonymous donor.

Anyone can support North Texas Giving Day online from 7 a.m. to Midnight at www.DonorBridgeTX.org. Or, stop by in person at our several “donation station” events throughout the day:

• 7 a.m. to Midnight, Communities Foundation of Texas Donation Station at 5500 Caruth Haven Lane, Dallas, TX at the intersection of I-75

• 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Communities Foundation of Texas Donation Station includes complimentary showcase performances by several nonprofits. Donors may purchase lunch from local food trucks. A schedule of performers and confirmed food trucks will be updated here.

With 158 nonprofits in Collin County alone, there are plenty of opportunities for spreading the wealth.
