Night Court with Justice of the Peace Coming to MPAC

On Tuesday, Sept. 3, the Courtroom Theater in McKinney Performing Arts Center will be restored to its original courtroom configuration for night court with Justice of the Peace Paul Raleeh. Proceedings in the civil cases are open to the public and will begin at 6 p.m. For guests unable to attend and experience night court, the facility will also be open to the public for viewing from Friday, Aug. 30 through Sunday, Sept. 1.

The performance stage will temporarily be removed in the cozy and intimate 427-seat courtroom to uncover the restored original layout for court proceedings, complete with judge’s bench, witness box and juror’s bench.

“This will be a site for our community to see as it reflects the old courtroom setting, allowing those present to take a journey back into our history. The original judge’s bench and other courtroom trappings invoke a scene straight from To Kill A Mockingbird,” said Ty Lake, MPAC Director.

McKinney Performing Arts Center is located at 111 N. Tennessee Street, in the center of Historic Downtown McKinney. Administration hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. MPAC administration phone number is 972-547-2650.
