By TSB Staff and City of McKinney
Beginning Monday, Nov. 26, service hours at the John & Judy Gay Library will be the same as the hours at the Roy & Helen Hall Memorial Library in historic downtown. The library opened in December 2009 with shorter hours than the original McKinney library due to city budget constraints. This year, the City Council adopted a budget that added several staff members, including seven library employees, enabling the JJGL to adopt longer hours.
The new hours are:
Monday – Thursday: 10 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Friday & Saturday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Sunday: 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
The John & Judy Gay Library, located at located at 6861 W. Eldorado Pkwy. in Gabe Nesbitt Community Park, will be able to accommodate record numbers of visitors that continue to rise every year at both libraries. For the last fiscal year that ran from Oct. 1, 2011 through Sept. 31, 2012, the combined library circulation was 1,179,539, compared to 1,095,739 the fiscal year prior.
JJGL features free wi-fi access, special areas for kids and teens, chairs designed for laptops, self-service computers with internet access and a study room. Programs are provided for readers of all ages, and several early learning computer stations are accessible for preschoolers.
Both libraries will have special hours for the holidays, and they will be closed Monday, Dec. 10 for staff development. For more information, please call the Library at 972-547-7323, or visit www.mckinneypubliclibrary.org.
