McKINNEY, Texas (Sept. 30, 2015) – The McKinney Performing Arts Center (MPAC) will host the annual ‘Rhythms of Pen and Brush’ event featuring nationally-acclaimed poet Richard Blanco at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 15at MPAC, 111 N. Tennessee St.
‘Rhythms of Pen and Brush’ is an annual celebration of art, music and spoken word and is presented by MPAC,the Arts and Music Guild and the Mockingbird Chapter of the Poetry Society of Texas. In addition to a poetry reading by Blanco, the evening will also feature work by visual artists, jazz musicians from the University of North Texas, poets and actors.
Blanco is the fifth poet to read at a United States presidential inauguration, having read for Barack Obama’s second inauguration, following in the steps of poets Maya Angelou and Robert Frost. Blanco also was invited to read a poem at the reopening of the U.S. Embassy in Havana, Cuba.
Blanco will also conduct a workshop for poets and high school and college students from 4-5 p.m. on Oct. 15 at MPAC. The workshop has limited availability and participants must register in advance.
‘Rhythms of Pen and Brush’ is sponsored by the McKinney Arts Commission, Reach International, Ricco Family Partners Ltd., Medical Center of McKinney, Medical Center of Plano, and Cancer Center Associates with support from Emerson Process Management Regulator Technologies, Inc.
