McKinney North senior Jackie Bucy signed her letter of intent to play college soccer at Midwestern State on Wednesday afternoon in front of family, teammates, and coaches.
Bucy was a four-year varsity starter for the Lady Bulldogs, winning District 17-4A Newcomer of the Year her freshman season and landing on the Academic All-District team twice. She had one goal so far in 2012 after scoring six goals the previous season.
North head coach Lance Lovell described Bucy as “a wonderful role model,” as the senior is seen as a leader on the team as she has been chosen by her teammates as the captain in the last two seasons.
“She will be greatly missed,” said Lovell.
Bucy chose Midwestern, which is located in Wichita Falls, because of the atmosphere of the campus and the welcoming attitude of the players. She said that she will miss having to say goodbye to her soccer family at North.
“I’ll miss the girls,” said Bucy. “The girls are like a family to me. Just the camaraderie and all the coaches.”
After an injury took away part of her junior season, Bucy said her motivation for her senior season was “to be part of the team and help lead the girls.”
McKinney North (8-1-3) will begin District 17-4A play next Tuesday night at Denison, beginning at 7:15 p.m.
