The Medical Center of Plano has been selected by Modern Healthcare magazine as one of the nation’s “Best Places to Work in Healthcare” for 2011. The hospital, which is owned and operated by Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA, Inc., was one of only a half-dozen North Texas healthcare institutions and companies named this year to the magazine’s fourth annual “Top 100”list. Among those six, it is the only full-service hospital.
“This is a wonderful validation of what all of us at The Medical Center of Plano have been working so hard to achieve,” said Troy A. Villarreal, FACHE, the hospital’s president and chief executive officer. “Thanks to our employees and medical staff, the workplace culture of our hospital displays the remarkable amounts of energy, enthusiasm, and teamwork that caught the eye of Modern Healthcare’s researchers.”
Modern Healthcare is published weekly by Crain Communications, one of the nation’s largest privately owned business publishers. Presentation of the magazine’s “Best Places to Work in Healthcare” honors, including the posting of a numerical ranking of all 100 honorees by company size, took place at a gala banquet on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Chicago’s InterContinental Hotel. The Medical Center of Plano placed 96th on the list.
The results were based on surveys of healthcare employers and their employees conducted for Modern Healthcare by the Best Companies Group of Harrisburg, Pa. Any healthcare organization with 25 employees or more was eligible to participate. A total of 327 employers across the nation took part in this year’s survey process, which was launched in June.
Employers provided information on company policies and practices, benefits, and workforce demographics. Employees responded to an in-depth set of questions, the results of which were submitted for analysis in eight core areas.
• Leadership and planning
• Culture and communications
• Role satisfaction
• Working environment
• Relationship with supervisor
• Training and development
• Pay and benefits
• Overall satisfaction
The singling out of TMCP as one of this year’s “Best Places to Work in Healthcare” followed its designation in March as a Level II Trauma Center – the first in Collin County and only the third in all of North Texas. It already enjoyed the distinction of having been the first hospital in Collin County to achieve elite Magnet recognition from the American Nurses Association.
The hospital is a perennial front-runner in the annual employee satisfaction survey conducted by HCA, its parent company. In the most recent survey, TMCP once again ranked among the top 10 percent of the more than 260 hospitals and freestanding surgery centers owned and operated by HCA in 20 states and Great Britain.
