The McKinney Independent School District Board of Trustees set the early voting dates for the upcoming tax ratification election in McKinney. During Tuesday evening’s school board meeting, the board members voted on a revised election order, which sets September 4 as the start of early voting in the TRE election.
The TRE election was initiated by the school board in June due to a nearly $11 million shortfall in the MISD budget. If passed, the TRE will raise McKinney’s property taxes from$1.54 per $100 of assessed home value to $1.67 per $100 of assessed home value. This 13-cent increase would raise McKinney’s school taxes to the highest allowable level by law in the state of Texas and would trigger additional funding from the state as well.
Those two increases in funding will allow MISD to balance its budget and rebuild its fund balance, which was used in the previous two years to fund operations.
The official election date is Saturday, September 21.
