Middle School Volleyball: Dowell Wraps Up Season at Home

The Dowell Lionettes Eighth grade volleyball teams finished their season with a strong three win wrap up for the season over the Denison YellowJackets.

The Blue “B” team had a killer two games, 25-12, 25-7. Outstanding players for these three games were Skyler Edwards for offensive with 4 aces and 5 assists and Lauren Folsom for defensive player with 4 digs. Melody McDonald was the overall player of the game with 7 assists, 1 kill, 2 digs and 1 tip.

The Gold “A” team pushed through in two games, 25-5 and 25-11. Overall defensive player was Grace Kesler with 5 digs and 2 saves and outstanding offensive players were Kelsey Vineyard with 15 serves and 8 aces and Lauren Watson with 14 serves and 7 aces. The outstanding player of the game was Jillian Duffin with 5 aces, 2 assists, 3 kills and 1 tip, with her debut in setting.

The White “C” team closed out the season in two, 25-15 and 25-7. Outstanding all-around players for these matches were Haley Yohn with 2 aces, 1 assist and 3 kills and Taylor Smith with 4 aces and 3 kills for offensive players. Mandy Wallner was the defensive player with 3 digs and we love the white team for the overall team award.

Thank you for all of your support this season for our girls! They are a great group of ladies and have so much talent. We look forward to wrapping up the season with the “A” team tournament this weekend at Faubion Middle School.

Seventh Grade Teams Wrap Up Season

In the last regular season match up of the 2011 season, the Lionettes’ seventh-grade volleyball teams went three for three against Denison. The Blue team won 25-7 and 25-14 in two sets.  Brynn McConnell was the offensive player of the game, going on a roll with a string of point-earning serves to lead our team to victory.  Emma Feldman and Julia Hoyle shared co-defensive honors, providing great saves and overall passing. Mikayla Kuehne won overall player honors for the third straight time for all around consistent play. The Blue team ends their district-play season with an overall record of 5-4 .

The Gold team rallied to win a two set match, with scores of 25-7 and 25-11.  McKenzie Smith brought a great serving game, earning her team’s winning points to become offensive player.   Carlie Kaufman received defensive player honors capping the match off with a monster block to lead her team to a convincing victory. Rebecca Groskopf was overall player of the night providing consistent serving and court play in both sets. The Gold team finishes their district play with a record of 6-3.

The White team proved Dowell to be a dominate force throughout the night. They finished in two sets, as well, winning 25-20 and 25-10. Alex Coleman continued to show leadership by attacking the net and improving her serving game with consistent serves and aces from the line – she received offensive player honors. Gretchen Omholt, continuing to improve her setting game, was the defensive leader with error-free passing. Meg Dickson was the overall player with great passes and going on a 10-point service run bringing the White team to final victory to end their season. The White team ends their season play with a record of 7-2.

Although the Blue and White teams are now officially over, the Gold team will play an end-of-the season tournament this Saturday at Cockrill Middle School against Prosper. Game time starts at 9:15 am.
