Middle School Volleyball: Dowell Teams Take On HP

Dowell’s seventh-graders swept Highland Park on Thursday, while its eighth-graders didn’t have as much success.

Dowell 7th Grade

The Lionettes’ Blue team won in three games to Highland Park, 23-25, 25-15, and 25-16. Offensive player of the game was Courtney Sogga for getting her first kill and solid play at the net.   Defensive player was Olivia Kubes for outstanding passing on defense and serve receive. Overall Player of the game was Georgiana Roeder blocking and kills from the middle.

The Gold team won 25-21 and 25-23. The Lionettes pulled out a win with aggressive serves from Keely Andrews and solid overall defense.

The White team lost 11-25 and 19-25. Offensive player of the game was Courtney Creedon for hustle and setting improvements.  Defensive player of the game was Leah Pate for consistent passing and better aggression.  Overall player of the game was Taylor Castilla for great passes and swings.

The Lionettes’ next match will take place against at Scott Johnson  on Oct. 11. The Blue team will take the court first at 5 p.m., followed by the Gold and White teams.

Dowell 8th Grade

The Dowell Lionettes Eighth grade volleyball teams are building back some steam against the Highland
Park Highlanders.

The Blue “B” team gained momentum at the end of two games but ended in losses, 10-25 and 18-
25. Outstanding players for these three games were Julia Hoyle with overall play for offensive, Alexis
Szewczyk with for defensive player and Mikayla Kuehne for the all around player of the game.

The Gold “A” team also dropped games in two, 17-25 and 7-25. Overall defensive player was Lily Isbell
for coverage, outstanding offensive player was Carlie Kauffman, and “The Setters” Mariah Kelty and
Parker Pinnell for overall players of the game for their leadership on the court.

Closing out the evening, the White “C” team finished with a back and forth loss in three, 20-25, 25-16
and 23-25. Outstanding all-around players for these matches were Jadyn Hardaway for offensive player,
Mikensi Bryant for defensive player and Paige Nicklas for overall player of the games.

Next set is against the Johnson Tigers on Oct. 11th at home, starting at 5 p.m.
