The Dowell Lionettes’ seventh-grade basketball teams won one of three games against Johnson this week.
The Dowell Blue team started slowly and picked up the pace in the second half, but not in time to make up the spread, losing 17-14. Offensive players of the game Danielle Boggs and Jessica Searles combined for 8 points and led the team in scoring. Cecelia Clark had a great defensive game with 4 steals in the second half alone. Karen Dabroi was a constant throughout the game both on offense and defense earning her over all player of the game.
The Gold team came out strong again, proving to be the better of the Lionnettes’ winning 37-25. The game’s top offensive player again goes to Carlie Kauffman with 16 points. Mikayla Kuehne played a great defensive game, picking up 2 steals and forcing turnovers for Evans’s team. Alex Coleman had 8 points, 3 assists, and 5 steals and was the team’s overall player of the game.
The White team pulled up close at the end, but ended up losing 18-15. Isabel Pate was the offensive player of the game scoring 8 points. Makenzie Muniz earned defensive player of the game. She had 3 blocks and played well down in the post. Kamryn Scamperle and Mary Carson Johnson led the team in steals with 11 as a combined total earning they the co-overall players of the game.
The Lionettes’ next match will take place against Denison M.S. at Denison on January 3, 2012. The Blue team will take the court first at 5:15 p.m. followed by the Gold and White teams.
