The Dowell 7th grade girls basketball team got one win in three tries against Highland Park on Tuesday night.
The White team pulled out another victory winning 17-14. Isabel Pate was the top scorer for the night, scoring 8 points and adding 2 steals for the Dowell Lionettes. Sydney Tarsi and Kenzie Muniz played hard down low in the post leading the team in rebounds collectively. Tia Fields earned overall player of the game for her efforts alone. She had 3 rebounds and 2 steals defensively and even though not one of her 8 shots or 4 free throws attempts fell, she kept trying and motivating her team while she did it.
The Lionettes’ Blue team just couldn’t get past the Lady Raider’s press in the second half and ending up losing the game 27-13. Even with tough play from all the players, Highland Park kept pulling away. Mariah Kelty, who scored a 4 points, earned offensive player of the game. Jessie Searles had 2 steals and 2 rebounds earning defensive player of the game. Sara Malakoff, who also had 4 points, 1 block, and 2 steals earned overall player of the game.
The Gold team struggled with the loss of Carlie Kaufman and Courtney Burgess for the night due to illness. They fought with all they had, but in the end lost 22-20. Frannie Gall had a great game; really stepping up for her team playing both guard and post positions and doing both well. She earned defensive player of the game. Alex Coleman played with a lot of heart, trying to get things going as the team’s leader on the court. She earned overall player of the game with 8 points.
The Lionettes’ next match will take place against the Cockrill Cowgirls at Dowell. The Blue team will take the court first at 5 p.m., followed by the Gold and White teams.
