Four full days of baseball and 15 games later, the stage is set for an epic championship Sunday at the Mickey Mantle World Series.
The two undefeated teams left in the 16-year-old baseball tournament, the SoCal Bombers and the Dallas Tigers Hernandez, will square off in a best-of-three series to determine the winner of the MMWS in 2012.
After earning a bye on Friday, the Tigers defeated the San Diego Gamers 4-3 in the first game of the day to eliminate the Gamers from the tourney. In game two, the SoCal Bombers defeated the Dallas Tigers Vanlandingham to advance onto the next round and eliminate Vanlandingham’s Tigers.
With Puerto Rico earning a bye into the fifth round, there were three teams left in the World Series. After re-drawing for positioning, the Tigers were awarded another bye and meant that SoCal and Puerto Rico would play in the final game on Saturday night at Al Alford Field. If Puerto Rico were to win, that would be SoCal’s first loss and would keep all three teams in the running going into Sunday. However, a Bombers win would eliminate Puerto Rico and leave two undefeated teams. In a very well pitched ballgame, the Bombers outlasted Puerto Rico and won 3-1 to advance onto Sunday.
The game time for Game 1 of the best-of-three series is set for 9 a.m. at Al Alford Field. Game 2 would be at 11:30 a.m., with Game 3 if necessary being played at 2 p.m. With temperatures likely to only be in the low 90’s during the first two ballgames, bring some sunscreen and watch some of the best 16-year-old talent in the country compete for the championship at the Mickey Mantle World Series.
Here are the scores from Saturday’s action:
Puerto Rico were awarded a bye into Round 5.
Dallas Tigers Hernandez 4 San Diego Gamers 3
Dallas Tigers Vanlandingham 2 SoCal Bombers 11
Dallas Tigers Hernandez drew a bye into Round 6.

Below is the championship schedule for Sunday:
