Michelle Baumann Promoted to Principal of Reuben Johnson Elementary

BaumannMcKinney, Texas – McKinney ISD has chosen current Reuben Johnson Elementary Assistant Principal Michelle Baumann as the new principal of that campus. The position was made available recently when longtime Johnson Principal Suzy Woodard became McKinney ISD’s assistant superintendent for learner support.

Baumann is no stranger to the Johnson community having served as assistant principal at the school since 2011. Prior to that, she was the response to intervention specialist for Johnson Elementary and Valley Creek Elementary for two years and a 4th grade classroom teacher at Johnson from 2007 to 2009.

“McKinney ISD prides itself on developing administrators from within,” said McKinney ISD Superintendent Dr. Rick McDaniel. “Whenever possible, we like to promote those individuals who have demonstrated a high level of success in their current job. Mrs. Baumann has been a successful assistant principal at Reuben Johnson Elementary for a number of years, and consequently, we feel she is the best fit to carry on the programs that have served Reuben Johnson so well.”

Baumann has labored alongside Woodard to establish those programs and the positive school culture that permeates the campus. “I couldn’t be more pleased that Mrs. Baumann will be filling this role,” said Woodard. “We’ve worked very closely together over the past four years, and her knowledge of the school, the students and the parents will ensure a smooth transition. She’s completely familiar with every aspect of school leadership, and she is well-prepared to take on this new role. I’m excited to see the great things that will come from her leadership. I know she’ll be very effective as a campus principal, and I’m proud of her.”

Baumann began her career as an educator in 1999 as an elementary teacher in Bryan ISD. Over the following eight years, she would serve as a teacher and then instructional specialist in Driscoll ISD and Cypress-Fairbanks ISD before coming to McKinney in 2007 to teach at Johnson.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with a specialization in Early Childhood Education from Texas A&M University – Kingsville and a Master of Science in Educational Administration from Stephen F. Austin University.

“I am very honored and excited to be the new principal for our Jaguar family,” said Baumann. “As I accept this role, I am personally challenged, inspired and motivated to lead our school by growing every child, every day.”
