Michael Martin Murphey Returns to Celebrate MPAC's 5th Anniversary

Celebrate McKinney Performing Arts Center’s 5th Anniversary with “America’s singing cowboy poet,” Michael Martin Murphey on Saturday, April 9 at 8:00 pm.

On April 27, 2006, Murphey performed as the inaugural artist in MPAC’s Courtroom Theater enchanting audience members with his unique blend of story-telling and Cowboy Music. Murphey’s musical style and capabilities were perfectly suited to debut the facility’s intimate seating setting and finely tuned acoustic system. His performance at MPAC was extremely well-received, and through the years, Murphey has consistently appeared as a requested favorite by audiences.

MPAC Director, David Taylor states, “As we reach this milestone of our 5th anniversary, it only seemed appropriate to schedule an encore performance by Michael Martin Murphey. We are delighted to welcome Mr. Murphey’s return to McKinney.”

Since opening, MPAC has hosted a succession of national artists such as Duncan Sheik, Ricky Skaggs, Paula Cole, Debbie Reynolds, Hal Holbrook, in addition to a wide variety of local arts organizations. Live performance fills the Courtroom Theater almost every weekend of the year, and to date, MPAC has experienced over 600 shows.

In addition to Murphey’s concert, MPAC celebrates its 5th anniversary with Chalk Walk, a sidewalk art competition from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. located on the sidewalk squares surrounding the facility. Professional artists and community participants will share their talent with the public for this first annual street art competition held in conjunction with McKinney Main Street’s Art Walk.
