It’s been a terrific year for 2013–14 District Female Swimmer of the Year Sammie Hashbarger. At the recent UIL State Swim & Dive Meet, the senior from McKinney High School posted All-American times on her way to winning the gold medal in the 500 meter freestyle and bronze in the 200 meter freestyle event. Her success among the high school ranks bodes well for her collegiate potential; next year, she’ll be suiting up as a member of the swim team for the University of Texas.
Fellow athlete Jacob South has two more years to think about college prospects, but in 2013–2014 the sophomore diver from McKinney High School locked up an impressive ninth place finish at the state meet and posted a personal best—and All-American qualifying—point total of 384.75 in the 1 meter diving event.
