Devon Maguire and Sam Anich, both seniors at McKinney High School, have been named to the 2012-2013 Texas Academic All-State Cross-Country Team. This honor is awarded yearly by the Texas High School Coaches Association and the United States Marine Corps. The award recognizes high academic achievement by varsity high school athletes across Texas. Both Devon and Sam were named to the First Team.
Devon has been on the MHS girls’ cross-country team all four of her years at McKinney High. Her coach, Clay Davis, nominated her for the honor. In addition, Devon was voted by her teammates to recieve the “Lion Heart” award for her hard work, dedication and attitude.
Sam has also run all four years at MHS, and served as team captain this year. He was nominated by boys’ cross-country coach Francis Jones. Sam was also awarded the “Lion Heart” award by his cross-country teammates.
To be considered for the Academic All-State Team, atheletes must meet the following criteria:
- Have an overall grade point average of 92 or above, including grades 9-12 and the first six weeks of grade 12
- Have been a member of the team in good standing at the time of nomination
- Must be a senior
- Be of good moral character
